Yossi's 2021 EP For Some Reason Is a Contemplative and Unflinching Piece of Brilliance

You're right, we normally focus on more recent releases around these parts, but when you come across an EP that's as genius as For Some Reason, exceptions simply have to be made. Courtesy of London-based spoken word artist, educator, actor, and filmmaker Yossi Goodlink, the six-track offering took over four years to complete, but when you take it in, the dedication in every detail speaks for itself.

Delivering hard-hitting truths and contemplations on life, Yossi doesn't shy away from challenging perceptions with unfiltered storytelling and sharp lyricism. The EP's opener, Gangsta Rapper, sees the artist exploring his early love for hip-hop, and how he looks back on that now. It's deeply thoughtful and contemplative stuff - and only gets more unflinching when the sounds of No Religion make an appearance.

Yellow Cars and Empathy feels like something of a sonic palette cleanser, allowing you to sit back and absorb what you've heard so far - before Nature Baby showcases Yossi's gift for fusing complex instrumentals with an accessible sound.

Inspiration Pyramid and Drastic complete For Some Reason, and they're two tunes I shall be leaving you to discover for yourself. What I will say, however, is this EP is an experience best enjoyed from start to finish. No skips…just immersion.
