Resonance Is the Album That Reminds Us Why Bill Fox Is a Cult Hero
Resonance is an album I've been dying to share with you! Courtesy of Cleveland-based singer/songwriter Bill Fox, I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peek before its official release, and now I can finally stop humming these tunes to myself and share their magic with all of you.
An eleven-track offering, and Bill's first album in eight years, Resonance is a wonderfully homely, folky, and eclectic collection of songs. The record's opener, Terminal Way, is a jangly and ridiculously infectious little number, before the epically sombre, Bob Dylan-esque Meat Factory makes its appearance.
Wings of December showcases Fox's signature power-pop sound, while The Biggest Sale, a cassette-drenched home recording, infuses the album with a personal and unvarnished intimacy that brings to mind the early work of Elliott Smith.
Other personal favourites from Resonance include the timeless sounds of Wildflower, the delicate beauty of Lift Your Heads, and the record's colourful closer, Got Her on My Mind. Truthfully, however, the entire album deserves your full attention. It's genius. And I can't wait to dive into the rest of Bill's discography.
Known as a mythical figure in the Ohio music scene, Fox feels like one of those rare artists who never needed the spotlight to shine.
