Lemon Serve Up Vintage Cool with a Modern Edge on Gimme Something True
Delightfully earthy and laidback, Gimme Something True is the absorbing new single from Amsterdam-based indie rockers Lemon. Joined by Cath Coffey, the legendary British singer who was one of the earliest members of the hip-hop band Stereo MCs, Lemon have delivered a hazy and, dare I say it, psychedelic piece of music. It's soulful and warm and full of heart, holding the listener's attention for the entire five minutes and fifteen seconds.
The third of twelve singles Lemon plan on releasing throughout 2025, Gimme Something True is a tune the outfit describes as being "about vulnerability and connection". Reminiscent of acts like Primal Scream and Happy Mondays, it’s a slow-burning anthem that expertly channels the golden era of groove-infused indie rock.
Comprised of Mark Bongers, Paul and Ralf Hesen, and Thomas Gense, Lemon prove that timeless sounds can still feel fresh and modern. I can't wait to hear how they sonically evolve as the year progresses. I get the feeling it could be rather special.
