Helplessly Hopeless is a Crushing Preview of Daníel Hjálmtýsson’s Next Chapter

In 2022, Icelandic rock outfit Daníel Hjálmtýsson made a serious impression with their debut album Labyrinthia. A ten-track offering of dark and gothic gems, the record was widely acclaimed, and set the stage for the band's ascent as one of Iceland’s most intriguing rock acts. 

Fast forward to today, and the outfit is busy preparing to unleash their sophomore album A Piece Of Broken Glass, as well as embark on an EU tour later in the year. They've released two singles from their forthcoming record, the most recent of which is Helplessly Hopeless, an intense and powerful piece of music I've fallen in love with.

Genre-wise, it's a toughie to pin down, but there are certainly elements of alternative and gothic rock, progressive metal, and dare I say even a touch of doom metal. Whatever you want to label it, Helplessly Hopeless is a deeply potent and profound tune.

A song that expresses intense frustration with injustice and a seemingly global volatile state where compassion, peace, love and understanding are fleeting, Daníel Hjálmtýsson's latest release rumbles with an undercurrent of sorrow and fury, demanding to be heard.
