Swamp Music Players Expertly Resurrect a Forgotten Tune with Florida Keys

In 2008, a band by the name of Ballgag 'N' Chain Gang released a tune called Florida Keys. Bassist Evert Pater was one of the original writers and composers of the track, and he recently lent his expertise to the Canadian outfit Swamp Music Players. Taking on the challenge of reimagining the original song, and joined by the legendary and award-winning Wily Bo Walker, Swamp Music Players and Co. set about concocting a dark and gritty Americana gem.

Eerie and intriguing and deeply cinematic, Florida Keys is a tale of the dark and scary secrets that lurk beneath seemingly paradisal environments. "The main significance of the song is its brooding atmosphere," says the band. "And the darkness that can enter the heart when everything that surrounds you is drenched in dread and evil".

As their name suggests, Swamp Music Players explore the swamp rock genre. Characterised by a blend of southern rock, blues, country, and soul, they channel a sound that’s thick with grit and humidity.

The more I revisit Florida Keys, the more layers seem to unfurl. It's buzzing with life and packed with energy. Swamp Sandich Too is the outfit's forthcoming EP, scheduled for release sometime next month. I can't wait!
