Plaster Rip the Roof Off with Their Raw and Energetic Debut EP Back to Basics

Back to Basics is the smashing debut EP from San Diego-based post-punk rockers Plaster, and it's one of the best introductory statements I’ve heard from a new band in ages. A quickfire four-track offering that draws influence from outfits like Fontaines D.C., Crack Cloud, and Title Fight, Plaster's debut release was recorded live to mimic their sound as best as possible. That can be hugely risky…but the result is a raw and unfiltered EP that showcases an act already in full swing.

The title track kicks us off, immediately drenching the listener in warm and upbeat riffs that set the tone perfectly. Noend Insight then steps up to the plate in a raucous and energetic fashion, bringing forth a darker, more sinister sound compared to its predecessor.

Past Life is Plaster in a more introspective and laid-back mood, letting in space and allowing the listener a breather, before Upswing plays us out with more jangly defiance and driving urgency.

An exceptional listen from start to finish, Back to Basics sets the stage for a massively promising trajectory, capturing an outfit clearly hungry for more.
