Perfume is Kelsie Kimberlin at Her Most Effortlessly Infectious
A proud Ukrainian-American, Kelsie Kimberlin is a singer/songwriter I've had the privilege of following and reviewing for two years now. It all began with her sublime cover of Miley Cyrus' Rooting For My Baby, a tribute to her beloved Ukraine, and from that moment on, I was hooked on her sound. Many many singles followed Rooting For My Baby, but today it's one of Kelsie's latest tunes, Perfume, that I'd like to hone in on. Let's dive in, shall we?
An immersive and hard-hitting slice of pop brilliance, Perfume is an uplifting and somewhat lighthearted track about love. Full of life and deeply infectious, it's a well-earned break from the heavier themes Kelsie often tackles. "Like perfume, love can be so mysteriously attracting," she says. "The right perfume, like the right love, is so powerful that no words are needed".
Accompanying Kelsie's new song is a stellar music video directed by the artist and filmed in Kyiv. While idyllic and calm, it wasn't long after wrapping up that a Russian drone attack hit a nearby apartment, killing fifteen-year-old Mariya Troyanovskaya. This tune, Kelsie says, is dedicated to her.
An undeniable star who wears her heart on her sleeve, Kelsie Kimberlin is a musician I'll never tire of championing. The world is in desperate need of more artists like her.
