Marcus: The Apex Predator! Come Roaring Back with Explosive New EP Newborn Fossil

In 2018, Detroit-based outfit Marcus: The Apex Predator! released their debut album, The Fury of Almost. Describing themselves as a "post-hardcore (or something) group," the talented duo of Kevin Watts and Nick Marko then, unfortunately, let life get in the way. Their sound went silent, but the fire clearly never went out.

Newborn Fossil is the act's long-awaited follow-up to The Fury of Almost, and I believe, similar to the band, that they're making up for lost time with this one. A five-track offering that sees Kind Beast's bassist Sean Bondareff joining proceedings, the raw and hugely energetic EP is a very welcome return.

The EP's title track lays the groundwork with grit and purpose, immediately plunging the listener into the deep end, where angular guitar riffs and Watt's piercing vocals take centre stage.

Lo-Fi then steps up to the plate and showcases a more leisurely and "traditional" sound compared to its predecessor, before the highly immersive and hard-hitting gem, The First Summer, comes into play.

Plenty & Shine and No Fraction complete Newborn Fossil, and they're two tunes that are yours and yours alone to discover. Linger along the shorelines or dive straight in. The choice is yours. But, you know my recommendation!
