deathsleep’s Debut EP, Irish Goodbye, Is a Beautiful Wreckage of Noise and Emotion
Ben Rosett, Gareth Lastinger, and Dillon Marra make up the scintillating new post-hardcore outfit deathsleep. Hailing from Oregon, the three-piece recently unleashed their debut EP in the form of Irish Goodbye, a four-track sonic extravaganza of intricate guitar work, powerful drumming, and otherworldly vocals courtesy of Gareth.
Lamentations gets the ball rolling in eerie fashion, a forty-four-second introduction that expertly sets the scene for Don't Go to creep in quietly, before it erupts into a full-blown auditory storm. Tearing through the soundscape with unrelenting force, it's one of the most potent tunes I've heard in some time, and showcases a band that already sounds like they belong in the big leagues.
Diamond Eyes takes things down a notch: a melodic and heartfelt offering full of depth and emotion that reminds me of acts like Saosin and Closure in Moscow.
Closing out the EP is Moon Omens, another scorching piece of progressive rock/post-hardcore brilliance. Dynamic and highly inventive, it's the perfect "farewell for now" from an outfit I simply cannot wait to hear from again! A genius first offering from start to finish.
