L'ESPIRAL’s Little Mountain Road Is a Lush and Country-Tinged Reverie
L'ESPIRAL is an up-and-coming duo that combines the poetry of Zoë Bleu with the music of Reggie Debris. Based in Los Angeles, the pair unleashed their debut single last year, an inspired interpretation of Sinéad O'Connor's Troy. Since then, three more singles have followed, the most recent of which is an aching, country-infused gem called Little Mountain Road.
A song about disembodied love and connection, Little Mountain Road showcases L'ESPIRAL's full range of emotional and sonic depth. It's a haunting piece of music, really, filled with profundity and soul. The vocal interplay between Zoë and Reggie is absolutely stunning, and it's a tune that leaves the listener with a sense of quiet reflection and longing. At least in my case.
The duo find inspiration in a wide range of musicians and acts: The Jesus and Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, David Bowie, and Björk, to mention just a few. Their genius, however, is that their sound is unmistakably and entirely their own.
Little Mountain Road will form part of L'ESPIRAL's debut album, scheduled for release towards the end of this year. It's a record I can't wait to hear, and something tells me it will be well worth the wait.
