Laidback, Lush, and Unforgettable: Hybrid Kid’s Cry Is a Stunning Comeback

When Danny Lloyd, the brains behind a solo project called Hybrid Kid, mentioned that Badly Drawn Boy and Sparklehorse influenced his latest single, I was immediately intrigued. Based in Brighton, Cry is the first we've heard from Danny in over two years, but I can confidently say the wait has been worth it.

Bringing forth a message of resilience and determination, Cry takes the form of a sonically immersive and laidback piece of music that instantly gets stuck in the listener's head. An earworm of epic proportion, a fingerpicked acoustic guitar and a walking bassline form the heartbeat of the tune, creating a hypnotic groove that’s simply impossible to shake off.

"It's a song about getting over disappointments," mentions Danny. "Picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, getting up, and trying again".

Recorded in a barn at the picturesque South Downs National Park, Hybrid Kid's new release feels as organic and earthy as the landscape it was born in. It's a stunning return to the scene from a hugely talented artist and, while it's only been out a few hours, Cry is a track that already feels like an old favourite.
