Dark Tala’s Waking Up is a Fearless Debut That Demands Attention
As far as debut singles go, Waking Up is up there with the very best I've come across. Courtesy of Melbourne-based alternative newcomer Dark Tala, it's a tune the artist describes as being "both a funeral and a rebirth, an anthem and a warning, a promise of protection, and a call to action".
Through distorted guitars, potent drum work, and the stupendous vocal range of the musician, Waking Up sends forth a message of self-empowerment and confidence. Influenced by heavyweights like Evanescence, Linkin Park, System of a Down, and Bring Me the Horizon, there's a fire in this debut release that refuses to be tamed. And sure, it pays a sonic homage to those that came before, but there's an undeniable freshness in Dark Tala's sound too.
Released just a few days ago, Waking Up is one of the most exciting new tracks I've heard lately. It's so bold and powerful and in-your-face. I'm also pretty certain this is the start of a journey that's going to shake up the scene for all the right reasons!
