Dark Elegance Meets Fierce Power on Kat Von D's Potent Single I Am A Machine
Cards on the table…Miami Ink was a steady part of my reality TV diet growing up. I was utterly captivated by the masterful tattooing of people like Chris Garver and Yoji Harada. Then, up stepped Katherine von Drachenberg, better known simply as Kat Von D. Her work was incredible, and I just fell in love with her whole vibe.
2021 saw Kat venturing into the music world and releasing her debut single Exorcism, with a full-length album Love Made Me Do It following shortly. She's released a consistent stream of singles ever since and, last year, delivered her long-awaited sophomore record My Side of the Mountain. Critically acclaimed by almost all in the industry, there's a particular tune called I Am A Machine I'd like to introduce you to today.
Featuring Alissa White-Gluz, lead vocalist of Swedish melodic death metal legends Arch Enemy, I Am A Machine is one of the most intriguing pieces of music I've recently encountered. A mesmerizing blend of dark, synthy, electronic goodness, the hard-hitting and potent track is a haunting anthem that leaves a deep impression.
Establishing herself as a legitimate musical powerhouse, Kat Von D proves once again there's little she can't do. I'm about to dive into My Side of the Mountain in its entirety…I get the feeling there's a lot more brilliance to unearth!
