Catchy, Colourful, and Celestial: The Flip Phones Soar on Polaris
Exactly a week ago, Virginia-based acoustic-driven rock act The Flip Phones delivered their sophomore EP in the form of Spinning Adrift. It's a five-track offering, and today I'd like to introduce you to its fourth song Polaris, a geniusly infectious and energetic tune that has stolen my heart.
An eclectic fusion of contemporary and classical influences, Polaris is described by the outfit as being "inspired by the celestial beacon that has guided travelers and dreamers for centuries". Serving as a reminder to lift our heads towards the sky when in need of hope and insight, it's a track that spins ancient wonder into a bright, bold, and colourful sonic gem.
Influenced by bands like R.E.M., Gorillaz, and Supergrass, The Flip Phones build their signature sound around catchy melodies, intricate arrangements, and lyrics that leave a mark. It's the perfect combination of musical excellence and storytelling brilliance.
If you're lucky enough to live in Virginia, you can catch The Flip Phones tomorrow night (the 12th) at the Galactic Panther Art Gallery. They'll also be performing at the Petworth Porchfest on the 26th, an event I hadn't heard of until today and now can't stop dreaming of attending.
