Through Fire and Fragility: Discover Michellar’s Stunning California Fields
You're right. Here at Savoy Truffle Tunes, we generally focus on newly released material. But when a tune like California Fields worms its way into your heart, release dates go out the window. Courtesy of San Francisco-based singer/songwriter Michelle Bond, AKA Michellar, the delicately beautiful track was shared in August last year - and was penned during the devastating California wildfires.
Offering a haunting perspective on the fragility of life and our homes, California Fields was admittedly influenced by The Eagles' classic song Hotel California. Airy, ethereal, and utterly exquisite, it's a six-minute epic that slowly unravels and wraps the listener up in a bittersweet embrace of melancholy and realism.
"The songwriting of this track came so poignantly and deliberately," says the artist. "It reveals my metaphorical view and emotions about this place I now call home".
Recorded at the Women's Audio Mission Studio, California Fields is one of the most sensitive and thought-provoking pieces of music I've heard in some time. And, since Michellar has released nineteen singles since, there's a lot more of her music to dive into and explore! That's exactly what I'm about to do.
