Ceremony Shadows Invite You into a World of Ritual Darkwave on Debut Album Ascension
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Ceremony Shadows is a band that crafts what they've termed "Ritual Darkwave". A fusion of ambient textures with the immersive allure of darkwave elements, the outfit's work is highly unique and inventive.
Ascension is the act's debut album - unleashed just a few days ago. Let me start by saying, it's a record that may require a few listens to fully understand and appreciate. Once you've reached that point, however, there's simply no turning back. The almost ritualistic experience feels like an initiation into a world of shadows and sound, and one you feel honoured to have been invited into.
Light Like Stars (Intro) is one of the most perfect introductions to an album I've heard, expertly setting an eerie scene that draws the listener in before the thumping sounds of its full-fledged counterpart come into play.
Resistance is a hypnotic and synth-filled gem the outfit describes as a meditation on the idea that "resistance is always futile and that what you resist persists," while Impetus takes one even further into the depths of a swirling sonic void.
